Actor Rudolph backs cancer campaign SUPPORT: Rudolph Walker

TV veteran to warn black men of prostate risk

EASTENDERS ACTOR Rudolph Walker is backing a campaign to encourage black men to learn more about prostate cancer.

The campaign to raise more awareness follows data showing the increased risk of prostate cancer among black men.

The Prostate Cancer Charity have launched a new strategy, entitled ‘Transforming the future for prostate cancer’ after statistics found that black men are three times more likely to develop prostate cancer and at an earlier age than white men.

“It is so important that African-Caribbean men are aware of their increased risk of developing prostate cancer and that they take control of their health and seek help at an early stage,” Walker said.

The charity hopes the new strategy will ensure that black men know more about prostate cancer and act on that knowledge.

It will undertake a series of actions, including lobbying Government and the National Health Service, to ensure that services are culturally relevant.

“I am delighted that Rudolph Walker has agreed to support this key event,” said John Neate, Chief Executive of The Prostate Cancer Charity.

“By doing so, he is sending out a clear message to other African-Caribbean men to be aware of their increased risk and to overcome fears surrounding the disease.”
