FIGHTER: Harver Parry
MAY I commend The Voice for its professional, thorough and honest report on little Harvey’s plight (Voice, February 23-March 1).
There’s reason to feel optimistic about Harvey’s future. The T-shirt he was photographed earing on the front cover of your newspaper read ‘Mambisito Pillo Insurrecto’. As any Cuban, like me, will tell you this is a clear reference to the animated series Elpidio Valdez, a popular Cuban cartoon that detailed the adventures of Elpidio Valdez, a high-ranked officer
within the Mambi army fighting against Spanish colonial forces during Cuba’s independence wars in the 19th century.
The word ‘mambi’ comes from Bantu and serves as further proof of the strong African presence in our liberating forces. The translation of the phrase on Harvey’s T-shirt would be ‘Little Rebel Fighter’.
His future augurs well.
