FOUNDATION: Six-year-old King Elyon
THE FOUNDER of a charity that supports children with heart defects has called on the community for more help after holding their annual Heart2Heart concert.
Sherell Hutchinson, who set-up Elyon Heart Foundation (EHF) in 2006 after her youngest son, King Elyon, was born with a heart defect has called on the community for help after a poor turnout at their concert.
Hutchinson, who organised the all-dayer at Durants Park, Enfield, on July 18, thanked all those that attended but stated that the shortage of numbers this year due to bad weather will make it difficult for her to assist other children.
Artists such as Chyna Soulstar and Shola Ama featured at the event, along with children entertainers.
The mother of four told The Voice: “We had a great time on Saturday and I am so grateful to all those that have supported the charity to-date. However, I still need support from the community to continue to help other children like my son.
“Like all charities, we rely on fundraising, however, due to the bad weather we did not make as much money as we anticipated at Heart2Heart.
“The money we raise goes towards families who need financial support in buying medicine, medical equipment and travel to and from the hospital, which is why it is so important for us to raise funds.”
Six-year-old Elyon, who is one of the youngest people in Britain and the youngest black person to live with a pacemaker, told The Voice: “I love Heart2Heart because I am able to celebrate my life with my family and friends.
“I go for my check-ups at the Royal Brompton every 3-6 months to the pacing clinic, just to make sure all is going well. Just like me Heart2Heart helps lots of other kids.”
Hutchinson, who plans to launch the charity service in the Caribbean and Africa, said: “If people can continue to send their donation to EFH that would make such a difference to those who are suffering with heart conditions.”
