
VICTIMS: Over 800 scam sites have been closed down
NIGERIA CLAIMS work with Microsoft has helped shut down 800 scam websites.
Nigerian officials said their three-year long efforts with software giant Microsoft has resulted in the closure of more than 800 scam websites and 18 crime syndicates which fraudulently milked millions from victims.
Chairman of Nigeria’s Economic and Financial Crimes Commission Farida Waziri said the partnership aims to shut down as many as 5,000 email addresses each month. There are also plans to warn potential victims in advisory emails.
Scams usually involve fraudsters convincing people there is easy profit to be made by helping a victim of misfortune transfer millions of pounds out of Nigeria, Sierra Leone or another country.
