BACK: Jacob Maroga
THE BLACK chief executive of Eskom, South Africa’s national power company, is back in his post after claims he was forced out by the company’s white board chairman.
The Associated Press (AP) said Jacob Maroga resumed his role last week after South African president Jacob Zuma met with chairman Bobby Godsell.
Godsell and Maroga had been in a long time power struggle.
Reports that Maroga resigned caused uproar with black business leaders and the youth wing of the ruling African National Congress, who claimed Maroga was forced out because he is black.
The Black Management Forum had also slammed the announcement, saying state-owned enterprises were becoming ‘slaughterhouses’ for black professionals.
Spokesman Andrew Etzinger confirmed Maroga was back at work on November 9, and said the confusion over his resignation was an "interpretation of a discussion", AP said.
Godsell has now reportedly resigned.
