Leona: I’m hard coz I’m from Hackney!

LEONA Lewis insists that she was able to get over being punched in the face pretty quickly because her tough upbringing in Hackney made her as strong as nails. The Happy singer says that hailing from a rough part of east London has prepared her for anything. "I'm from Hackney, so I'm hard,” Lewis told a British tabloid. “I'm not going to let something like that bother me. When you grow up where I did, you learn to move on. There was always some kind of craziness going on in my neighbourhood.” The X Factor winner adds: "The boys were always fighting each other and there was loads of street crime. I know how to look after myself. The part of London where I grew up has the highest crime rates in the country." Lewis was punched in the face by Peter Kowalczyk as she signed copies of her autobiography at a book store in London last month. Kowalczyk was charged with common assault. He was deemed unfit to face magistrates and has been sectioned.

Beenie’s inclusion in festival line-up sparks outrage from gay community

THE organisers of Auckland's Big Day Out music festival have responded to criticism for including Beenie Man in its 2010 line-up. The Who Am I deejay is set to perform at the Mt Smart Stadium in Aukland, New Zealand on January 15, 2010. But the announcement sparked criticism from gay rights campaigners who feel that the some of the Jamaican star’s past homophobic lyrics make him unsuitable to perform at the event. Big Day Out organizers have now responded to the criticism, saying that, as far as they know, Beenie has not performed the offending songs since signing the Reggae Compassionate Act (RCA) in 2007. They have contacted him to confirm that he stands by the Act. "The Big Day Out's core values include those of tolerance and understanding," says BDO promoter Campbell Smith. "We are responding to concerns that Beenie Man's presence at the event may compromise those values and are directly investigating fears that he will perform material conflicting with our philosophy and his own undertakings pursuant to the RCA. It may take us up to a week to resolve this matter."

US rapper Wale has dished the details of his ‘friendship’ with Solange, admitting that he loves her. The pair have been romantically linked and while Wale describes Beyoncé’s little sister as a friend, he doesn’t hold back on gushing about her. “I do love her,” he tells Honey magazine. “We’re friends. She’s amazing. She’s a good person. Any single mother contributing to society the way she does – I got a lot of love for them. She’s got to do a lot on her own and raise a young black man in this day and age so my hat goes off to her. She’s definitely an anomaly. And the way she can do that and manage to do the same things that I complain about having to do.”

Omarion’s not feeling Amber’s bi-sexual ways
