SOUTH AFRICA: ‘Mandela let us down,’ Winnie says CRITICISM: Winnie Mandela

ACTIVIST WINNIE Mandela has accused her ex-husband, anti-apartheid hero Nelson Mandela, of betraying her and black South Africans.

In a recent interview with legendary author V.S. Naipaul and his wife, Nadira, published by the Evening Standard, she said: “Mandela let us down. He agreed to a bad deal for the blacks. Economically, we are still on the outside. The economy is very much 'white'. It has a few token blacks, but so many who gave their life in the struggle have died unrewarded."

She also criticised him for accepting the Nobel Prize “with his jailer [FW] de Klerk” and for agreeing to the “Truth and Reconciliation charade."

Winnie claimed: “The ANC have effectively sidelined him but they keep him as a figurehead for the sake of appearance.”
