SHAKEN: Nelson Mandela
NELSON MANDELA'S grandchildren were left shaken after being held at gunpoint by two men attempting to rob them as they retuned from a birthday celebration.
After a family celebration of the former South African presidents' 92nd birthday, several of his grandchildren traveled to daughter, Zindzi's house.
Police spokesman, Brigadier Govindsamy Mariemuthoo said: "The driver transporting the grandchildren of Mr. Mandela had just moved into the gates when they were approached by two unknown gunmen."
The two robbers held them at gunpoint, ordering them to lie down in the entrance of the home. Following a gunshot from one of the suspects, the family driver returned fire and the robbers fled the property.
Mandela’s grandchildren were unhurt and there was no theft. With one of the highest crime rates in the world, incidents like this are all too commonplace in South Africa
