HERE IS a selection of images of the terrorist attack in Nairobi as Kenyan security forces attempt to neutralise militants who stormed a high-end shopping mall in the capital.

The deadly attack that began on Saturday (September 21) at the Westgate Mall has claimed the lives of at least 69 people and injured 170.

Somali terrorist group al-Shabab, which has links to al-Qaeda, has claimed responsibility. It said its actions were a response to the presence of Kenyan soldiers in southern Somalia.

The Kenyan army has about 4,000 troops in the region to combat militants, while al-Shabab said it aims to establish an Islamic state.

During the attack in Nairobi, militants are reported to have allowed Muslims to go free while targeted those not belonging to the faith.
