A WEEKEND of farewells to honour an extraordinarily popular pastor was dubbed ‘Derek-fest’ or a ‘Webley-thon’ by Chris Simms, chief constable of West Midlands Police, who was among many leading figures to pay tribute to the work of bishop Dr Derek Webley.
Hundreds took part in a three-day appreciation of Bishop Webley’s outstanding 18 years’ service at Handsworth’s New Testament Church of God. It began with more than 400 guests enjoying a celebration banquet and ended with a rousing community Gospel concert as a finale.
Webley, 53, the former chair of the West Midlands Police Authority, is to take up a national role as secretary and treasurer with the New Testament Church of God (NTCG) at its Northampton headquarters.
