‘Miracle’ mum has heart of gold

A YOUNG mum who has been called “a walking miracle” by doctors after surviving four major heart operations, wants to help others affected by heart illness.

Hhope (sic) Michelle White, 34, who is known by her middle name, has been in and out of hospital after collapsing at work in 2003.

Doctors found she had heart failure, a leaky heart valve and other problems including endocarditis, where the inner lining of the heart becomes inflamed.

But with the years of trauma behind her, Michelle, from Didsbury in Manchester, wants to help others and is organising the Hhope Valentine’s Charity Ball for the British Heart Foundation on February 18 at the Radisson Blu Hotel at Manchester Airport.

The mum of three has been supported in her ordeal by family and friends, who include Manchester City star Nedum Onuoha, and Marvin Morgan McKinley who plays for Shrewsbury Town.

Michelle, who collapsed at Manchester Airport, where she works as a Home Office case worker, said: “Hearing my diagnosis brought it all home to me. From a teenager I had suffered chest pains, tiredness, palpitations and shortness of breath but I always just put it down to stress."

“This has been life-changing for me but now I’ve put all the operations behind me I want to help others suffering with heart problems.”

Defender Nedum is one of Michelle’s biggest supporters and she has described him as her “rock.” He will be donating football memorabilia for auction at the ball, along with a substantial donation to the British Heart Foundation.

He said: “Michelle is a real inspiration. She’s been through so much but is determined to help others.”

Tickets for the event on February 18 cost £47.50 and will include a three-course dinner and entertainment. Tickets are available from Shirley McNally on 0161 288 7355.
