‘Serena can do anything’

TALENT: Serena Williams

SHE HASN’T played a Grand Slam since giving birth to her beautiful daughter but Serena Williams is heading to Roland Garros to win a fourth title according to her long-term coach Patrick Mouratoglou.

Fresh from the Prince Harry and Meghan Markle royal wedding, Williams, who flirted with veganism for 44 days earlier this year, hit the practise courts in Paris this week, two decades after her first ever performance in the competition.

Looking great, the 36-year- old recently gave her fans an insight into what she had been doing to get herself back into championship winning shape.

She told the New York Times: “I have to worry about diet and tness all the time. It’s my job to be fit.

“I have to have a good diet. I have to work out. Now, since the baby and only since the baby, I try to do cardio three or four times a week where I just go on a run. I actually never ran before, but I wanted to drop weight fast.

“It worked for me. Because I wanted to lean out, I also wanted to eat a lot healthier so I went vegan for 44 days. That worked out really well.”

Looking ahead to this year’s Grand Slam in France William’s coach said anything was possible where American was concerned.

“Serena will play the French Open to win it,” he told the WTA Tour. “Can she do it Serena can achieve anything -- after being her coach for six years, I’m even more sure of that statement.”

If successful it will take Williams level with Margaret Court’s all-time Grand Slam record of 24 majors. Her last appearance at a Slam was at the 2017 Australian Open which she won while pregnant.
