Adams becomes 1st female boxer to fight at Royal Albert Hall

EXCITED: Nicola Adams during the press conference at Royal Albert Hall, London

NICOLA ADAMS will make history this year, as she becomes the first female boxer ever to fight in the Royal Albert Hall.

This will also be the first world title fight for Adams as she challenges WBO world flyweight champion Arely Mucino on March 8.

Adams, who became the first woman Olympic champion when she won the first of her two golds at the London Games, said: “I love making history and it will be an honour for me to follow in the footsteps of so many great boxers who have fought here.”

Heavyweight prospect Daniel Dubois will also be on the bill as promoter Frank Warren brings boxing back to the Albert Hall for only the second time in the last 20 years.

The first boxing match to take place at the Royal Albert Hall was in December 1918.

However, professional fights were not permitted until the early 1920s, after which Muhammad Ali boxed two exhibition bouts. Other boxers to take to the iconic venue include Frank Bruno, Lennox Lewis, Ricky Hatton plus more.
