Afrobeats in Amsterdam and an interview with rapper Kaos

AFROBEATS IN AMSTERDAM: Mr Play with Toba, the festival's promoter

JUST TOUCHED down in London town from the Afrobeats in Amsterdam, a three-day festival weekender.

I can’t lie, I’m feeling wounded. It’s been non-stop, hitting different time zones and countries these past few weeks, but it’s been well worth it, and I’m appreciative for such experiences.

For those that don’t know, Afrobeats in Amsterdam is a hot new festival with beach, boat and club parties featuring the top trending artists and DJs from around the world. It’s currently on tour, and the next stop is Dubai this November!

It was an eventful experience and great to meet new people and catch up with some old friends.

I was especially pleased to have spent time with my old friend Jerry from partySQUAD, a big Dutch producer. It’s about time we cooked up something hot, watch this space...

NEW MUSIC: Dutch artist Chivv (left), Mr Play (centre) and Big Tobz (right)

I also connected with a very big Dutch artist by the name of Chivv and British artist Big Tobz in Abe Club, keep an eye out for new music from both of them, it’s guaranteed to be lit.

Finally, I’d like to give a massive shout out to guy that made it happen, the promoter, “Bad Guy” Toba. He put on a really successful festival. Follow @Afrobeatsin on Instagram to keep up with the next festivals in Dubai, Miami and Atlanta. Pick your favourite destination get involved.

This week, I’m pleased to share a catch up with Hackney’s finest: Kaos, the next biggest artist for the UK. You heard it here first. Here’s what he had to say:

PICTURED: Hackney rapper Kaos

Q: Who is Kaos?
A: A young and hungry Somali rapper/artist coming from Hackney, east London.

Q: When did you start rapping and how did you get into it?
A: Officially I've been rapping for a year this October, but I’ve secretly been shelling beats since I was young.

Q: Who are you influences?
A: My influences are Tupac, Biggie, D-Block, Nas; and in the UK, Joe-Black, Giggs and Margs.

Q: Tell us about your latest single?
A: My latest single is called If Heaven Had a Ghetto. It’s a fun, uptempo end of summer banger produced by Cee Figz and directed by both myself and TV Toxic.

Q: How would you describe your music to new listeners?
A: My music is real. I rap about my environment. I'm not trying to sugar coat the raps with things that people “want” to hear, but I stay positive minded and reflect my mood into my music. At the end of the day you either love me or hate me.

Q: What’s your plan for the rest of the year in regards to releases or shows?
A: More music, more visuals. I want to get on the stage again, I love to perform. I am currently working on some new stuff with a few spicy artists so keep an eye out for it!

Q: If you could collaborate with any artist right now, who would it be?
A: If I could choose anybody to work with it would be Meek Mill. Us two on a track would be a mazza still!

Q: What advice do you have for other artists on the come up?
A: Take it from me, a brudda still in your same boat...keep it real, stay pushing, keep the work rate at the all-time high, network and grind and stay releasing bangers!

Q: Where can we find you on social media?
A: My Socials are @kaos_hackney on Instagram and Twitter.
