al-Shabaab joins al-Qaida

JOINING FORCES: Somali Islamic group, al-Shabaab

SOMALI ISLAMIST sect, al-Shabaab, has reportedly joined forces with terrorist group, al-Qaida, a video released yesterday showed.

In the 15-minute clip, posted on an Islamic forum, al-Quaida leader, Ayman al-Zawahri, hinted at the merger according to a translation made by the Search for International Terrorist Entities (SITE) Intelligence group.

"Today, I have glad tidings for the Muslim Ummah that will please the believers and disturb the disbelievers, which is the joining of the Shabaab al-Mujahideen Movement in Somalia to Qaedat al-Jihad, to support the jihadi unity against the Zio-Crusader campaign and their assistants amongst the treacherous agent rulers," al-Zawahri said.

The video also features Mukhtar Abu Zubeyr, leader of the Somali Islamic group, which is fighting the UN-backed Somali government, pledging alliance to al-Qaida.

al-Zawahri became leader of the terrorist group, which was responsible for the September 11 terror attacks in New York, after its former leader, Osama bin Laden, was captured and killed in a raid in Pakistan on May 1, 2011.
