THE ALL-Weather Championships reach their climax on Good Friday, April 3. The championships consists of over 150 fixtures incorporating 900 flat races running from 30 October to 3 April. All-Weather Championships finals day will take place at Lingfield Park, Surrey. The meeting will be the richest all-weather racecard staged in Europe and is one of the richest racedays in the UK. The Voice's Tashan Joseph caught up with jockey George Baker who is currently in fourth place in the standings.

Q: How much are you looking forward to the All-Weather Championships final at Lingfield Park, Surrey on April 3?
A: It’s the end of the season so it’s an important day, big prize money so obviously I am really looking forward to the Championships and hopefully performing well.

Q: What would you say the difference is between All-Weather racing and traditional racing?
A: All-weather racing is on an artificial surface, so is a lot more consistent than grass and it’s primarily in the winter.

Q: How important will victory be financially for the winner considering the huge £1 million prize fund on offer?
A: It will be important because there’s a massive financial reward at the end of it for the winner, a great pay day so there is a massive incentive.

Q: How important are the All-Weather Championships in promoting the sport of horse racing?
A: It’s extremely important, more so because it promotes the lower grade racing in the winter which is very significant.

Q: Are you confident your horse will be able to produce a big performance for you on finals day?
A: At this stage the races aren’t finalised yet so you don’t know exactly what you’re riding. But the horses I have been involved with are well prepared and hopefully can go there in A1 condition

Q: Finally, can you see the All-Weather Championships growing in popularity?
A: Yes definitely! It’s a high profile sporting event now and the reputation of the championships is always growing especially with the money involved now.
