THE UK’s first LGBTQI+ domiciliary care service has been launched, with the aim of providing excellent support to ageing members of the LGBTQI+ community.

Alternative Care Services is a new specialist care provider for adult lesbian, gay, bisexual, transsexual, transgender and queer and intersex + people.

The company ensures all clients are supported with exceptional care, and never have to ‘go back into the closet’ when receiving care.

According to a recent report conducted by Marie Curie on LGBTQI+ seniors in care homes, many elders live in fear of discrimination in the form of homophobia or transphobia stigma when receiving care.

“Sadly, discrimination in the care industry exists”, explained Ramses Underhill-Smith, founder of Alternative Care Services.

“We know from a recent study, that many older LGBTQI+ people feel unable to disclose their sexual orientation or gender identity to care,”

“What’s even more worrying is that the same research found 80 percent of care home staff said they had never been provided with any training in (LGBTQI+) issues at their current workplace.”

“At Alternative Care Services our UNIQUECarers provide the very best, non-discriminatory care and support for all of our service users. We actively employ staff from the LGBTQI+ community and make sure they are fully equipped to meet all needs of all our clients.”

“Aside from providing the very best, person-centered care, it is our upmost goal to maintain the lifestyle our clients values, identities, and individualities, giving them peace of mind and a safe space to enjoy their lives without the fear of judgment or discrimination.”

As well as being specially trained in the areas of HIV, transgender and dementia care, staff at Alternative Care Services also provide the top most quality service set by the Care Quality Commission.
