ARETHA FRANKLIN's family have announced plans to hold an open casket memorial in the singer's hometown of Detroit.

The large venue was the same site where a memorial for Rosa Parks was held in 2005, and was reportedly selected in anticipation for the thousands of mourners who are expected to attend the public memorial.

Sources close to the Franklin family have told the online publication that the memorial will be open casket.

A date has yet to be set for the service.

Fans of the Natural Woman songstress have been gathering at the site of her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame to pay their respects to the singer.
