Aretha Franklin: Halle Berry will play me in movie

FILM: Aretha Franklin and Halle Berry, right

SOUL LEGEND Aretha Franklin has confirmed speculation that Halle Berry will play her in the upcoming film about her life.

In a recent interview with McCleans magazine, the 69-year-old singer said: “Halle Berry is back in the game.”

Her comments come after Berry said that she didn’t think she would be best suited for the part.

Frankling said: “I just saw her at the curtain of Oprah’s farewell event, and she let me know that she still wants to play the role.

“She didn’t know that she wasn’t expected to sing. I told her, ‘No, we never expected you to sing; we already knew you weren’t a singer! But I do think she could pull it through.”

Berry successfully lip synced for her Emmy award-winning performance as actress and singer, Dorothy Dandridge in the biopic, Introducing Dorothy Dandrige in 1999.

The Aretha movie, which is still in development, will be based on the singer’s 1999 autobiography, Aretha: From the Roots.

Other actresses who were considered for the role included singers Fantasia and Jennifer Hudson.
