Big hitters head for the Lord's

THE JOY OF SIX: Russell and Brathwaite will play at Lord’s on May 31

SOME OF the hardest hitting batsmen in the world will line up when West Indies tackle an ICC Rest of the World XI in a special T20 charity fixture next week.

Chris Gayle and Andre Russell are in a side that will be led by Carlos Brathwaite for the Windies for the Hurricane Relief T20 Challenge against the ICC Rest of the World XI at Lord’s Cricket Ground, London, on Thursday, May 31.

This charity match is being staged with the support of the MCC, ECB and ICC to raise funds to rebuild and restore five major cricket venues at the heart of Caribbean communities that were damaged by Hurricanes Irma and Maria.

The Ronald Webster Park in Anguilla, Windsor Park Stadium in Dominica, the A.O. Shirley Recreation Ground in the British Virgin Islands and the Carib Lumber Ball Park in St Maarten were all damaged during the passage of Hurricane Irma in September 2017.

Cricket West Indies (CWI) CEO, Johnny Grave, expressed his gratitude to the players who have made themselves available for the match. “On behalf of CWI, I’d like to thank the players for their commitment to and support of this vital cause,” he said.

“We’re hoping to raise a signicant sum from the Hurricane Relief T20 Challenge and are very grateful to the MCC, ECB and ICC, without whom this match would not be taking place.”

The ICC XI will include star names as England’s Eoin Morgan, Dinesh Kartik (India) and Shahid Afridi (Pakistan).

The full Windies squad is: Samuel Badree, Carlos Brathwaite (captain), Rayad Emrit, Andre Fletcher, Chris Gayle, Evin Lewis, Ashley Nurse, Keemo Paul, Rovman Powell, Denesh Ramdin (wicketkeeper), Andre Russell, Marlon Samuels, and Kesrick Williams.

Tickets are priced from £10 - £60. Visit:
