Big names lead the Investing in Ethnicity Awards' shortlist

SHORTLISTED: Stormzy and Meghan Markle

THE HSBC Investing in Ethnicity Awards has revealed its star studded shortlist which includes Meghan Markle, Alesha Dixon and Stormzy.

The celebrities and big brands are being honoured for their commitment to promoting and supporting ethnic minority talent at a glittering ceremony in London’s Waldorf Hilton on Thursday November 1.

Model Adwoa Aboah and presenter Jameela Jamil have been nominated for the Influencer Award., whilst Meghan Markle, 12 Years A Slave’s Chiwetel Ejiofor, Stricky Come Dancing’s Ore Oduba and presenter Alesha Dixon are all up for the Inspirational Public Figure gong. Liverpool FC hero, Mo Salah, who led the team to the Champions League Final in May, has also been shortlisted in the same category.

Legacy award nominees include Sir Trevor McDonald and Grace Jones for their outstanding commitment to ethnic minority talent and championing diversity.

The Media Impact award has recognised events including Stormzy’s powerful BRIT Awards performance, Jordan Peele and the Oscar-nominated film Get Out, Oprah Winfrey’s passionate speech at the Golden Globes, the most diverse Royal Wedding in British history and EastEnders tackling the growing issue of knife crime featuring young British black and ethnic minority actors.

Huge companies including Missguided, River Island, John Lewis and British Vogue have all been recognised for their efforts and will battle it out on the evening to take the Brands of the Year award home. This award recognises the organisations with a track record of supporting ethnic minority communities in the UK.

And The Voice's very own Paulette Simpson has been nominated for her outstanding contribution to communities, alongside BCA's Paul Reid and Doreen Lawrence OBE.
