Big two set for another sprint showdown

THE FASTEST two men in the world over 100m will clash once more at the Olympic Stadium tomorrow (August 9) evening.

Jamaican sprinters Usain Bolt and Yohan Blake won their 200m semi-finals in times of 20.18 seconds and 20.01 seconds respectively to advance into the final.

Bolt, a four-time Olympic gold medallist, defeated Blake in the 100m final on August 5 and is the defending champion as well as the world record holder in the 200m.

Blake triumphed in the first semi but almost eased up too much as American Wallace Spearmon and France’s Christophe Lemaitre came close to overtaking him on the finish line.

Behind Bolt in the second semi was South African 20-year-old Anaso Jobodwana, who recorded a personal best of 20.27 seconds to automatically make the final.

Dutchman Churandy Martina won the third semi in 20.17 seconds ahead of another Jamaican, Warren Weir, who also advanced into the final.

Team GB’s Christian Malcolm exited the competition after finishing third in 20.51 seconds in the same race.
