Black beauties get ready for model behaviour

CONTENDERS: Jade Thompson, Jessica Etonye and Ufuoma Itoje are in the final 13

THREE GORGEOUS black and mixed women have made the final 13 in Britain and Irelands’s Next Top Model.

Student Jessica Etonye, 23, of London, and insurance advisor Jade Thompson, 20, of Stoke-on-Trent were given the good news by supermodel host Elle Macpherson in an episode aired earlier this week.

Jade was spotted at Britain’s Next Top Model Live after putting her name down for the catwalk and her freckles and red hair caught the attention of scouts.

But stunning 20-year-old Ufuoma Itoje, who showed off her lean limbs in a pair of tiny shorts, was made to wait in a showdown between the two remaining hopefuls.

In a surprise twist, the London-based women’s rights campaigner was also voted through as a 13th contestant.

Looking slightly put out, Ufuoma told the cameras: “I’m thinking I should have been picked first.”

Ufuoma works with the Visible Women’s Campaign which helping fellow students across the UK overcome discrimination in the workplace and cites Ugandan supermodel Alek Wek as her favourite model.

Elle said: “When we met Ufuoma we were blown away by her beauty. Her strength lies in her face, with amazing skin a great smile.”

The three girls are now competing to be crowned the winner at a finale to be aired later this year after going on location to Miami.

They will be hoping to recreate the success of Season 5 winner Mecia Simpson and last season’s runner up Alisha White who are both working as models.

The dark horse might be Etonye who, at 23, is one of the older models.

But the video game enthusiast who keeps in shape with line dancing, belly dancing and yoga is determined to work her unique look and help her make the final.

Elle said: “Jessica epitomises what this show is about – that beauty comes in many different forms. This girl is dedicated to the art of modelling. She's quite extraordinary.”
