BMX star misses out

BMX STAR Shanaze Reade missed out on a medal today. Reade, who was one of the favourites for gold going into the event, struggled at the start of the final and never recovered, finishing sixth.

And Reade cited the difficult schedule of heats and semi finals as a reason for struggling: “Today’s schedule has been pretty hard with the back to back laps and obviously with the short recoveries it’s been hard to get on top of that.

“I just tried to stay focused and do the best I could and today it just wasn’t good enough.”

Reade has won the UCI BMX World Championships three times and had expected to add to Great Britain's tally of 56 medals, 25 of which are gold.
