Bond girl tips Idris Elba as next 007

SKYFALL ACTRESS Naomie Harris believes that Idris Elba should be selected as the next James Bond.

The 36-year-old Harris, who plays Eve in the latest instalment of the Bond franchise, previously worked alongside Elba in Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom and stated that the east Londoner would be an excellent choice to play 007.

Harris told the Huffington Post: “I didn’t realise that there was this talk and then I did a film with Idris and he said that he met [Bond producer] Barbara Broccoli and that it does seem like there is a possibility in the future that there could very well be a black James Bond.

“And I would have to vote for Idris because I just finished working with him and he’s a great guy.”

Elba, 40, first rose to fame for his portrayal as Russell ‘Stringer’ Bell in hit HBO series The Wire.

In February, Elba won Best Actor in a Miniseries at the Golden Globe Awards for his role in BBC series Luther.

And Harris revealed she did not know at first that Elba was a British actor, adding: “I didn’t even realise that until I started to work with him. I thought he was an American based on his role on The Wire.”
