British couple shot in Barbados

BRIDGETOWN: The couple were shot in the harbour area of the Bajan capital

TWO BRITISH tourists in the Caribbean were shot and injured on Sunday night (March 17) while visiting Barbados on a cruise holiday.

The married couple were named as Ann Prior, 59, and Richard Prior, 72, from Woodbridge in Suffolk. They were robbed and shot in the harbour area near the capital of Bridgetown as they returned to their P&O cruise ship, which had made a stopover on the island.

The couple had been on a three-month cruise.

Mr Prior is reported to have been shot in the side of the pelvis; neither of the two are believed to have sustained life-threatening injuries. They are being treated in the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

Local paper, Nation News, reports that police are holding two men in custody under suspicion of the shooting.

A police officer confirmed that a handbag was the item stolen by the attackers.
