Celebrating Africa’s brave new voices through music


FILM AFRICA, London’s biggest celebration of African and African diaspora cinema presented by the Royal African Society, returns to London cinemas for its seventh edition from Friday 27 October to Sunday 5 November.

Film Africa is the Royal African Society’s annual festival celebrating the best contemporary cinema from Africa and its Diaspora. Now in its seventh year, the festival offers a platform for African film and increased film choice for London audiences.

Taking place at six venues – Rich Mix, BFI Southbank, Ritzy Brixton, Ciné Lumière, Bernie Grant Arts Centre and the South London Gallery – Film Africa 2017 will showcase the latest and best feature, documentary, experimental and short films with 38 titles from 21 African countries, including 19 UK, European or World premieres.

A total of 12 filmmakers and onscreen talent will present their latest work and take part in Q&As, discussions and live music events. Plus this year’s festival continues its tradition of showcasing some of the finest musical talent from across the continent

Some of the acts attending included Award-winning singer, songwriter and instrumentalist Nakhane, the UK premiere of Crazy, Lovely, Cool a coming-of-age TV series from Obi Emelonye, filmmakers Abraham Gezahegne, Véro Tshanda Beya Mputu and more.
