Chris Hughton in line for Birmingham return?

FOLLOWING THE sacking of Lee Clark this week at Birmingham the Championship club is on the lookout for a new man to fill the hot seat and speculation is growing that Chris Hughton could be handed back the reigns.

The ex-Norwich boss was sacked by the Canaries last season, right before the team was relegated to the Championship and he has not yet returned to the dugout, biding his time for the right opportunity.

Hughton could prove a popular choice for Birmingham with fans known to be open to seeing him return after Norwich headhunted him away in 2012.

The former Ireland player still has options and could end up at Fulham as the Cottagers look to erase the bad memories of Felix Magath’s tenure.

Birmingham are understood to be drawing up a shortlist of candidates and it would be no surprise if the out-of-work Hughton was invited for an interview.

Nonetheless, the former Newcastle boss faces stiff competition for the new jobs up for grabs, with the likes of Gianfranco Zola, Steve Clarke and Malky Mackay hoping to get back into the fray.

Despite unhappy memories of his stints in the Premier League coming to premature ends with sackings at both Norwich and Newcastle, Hughton has shown to be a highly successful manager in the Championship and Birmingham and Fulham will be certainly paying close attention to Hughton’s availability.
