KEEPING THE PEACE: Organisers working with The Peacekeepers UK

A GROUP that trains people to patrol and promote peace in their neighbourhoods is launching in the UK this September.

'The Peacekeepers' already exist in the United States and for months, a UK branch, based in south London, has been recruiting, training and organising people to walk and patrol the communities in which they live. They also work with youths to keep them on the right path.

Representatives said The Peacekeepers UK is to be officially launched at the group’s I am Present for Peace conference on September 16.

Among those expected to speak is Tracey Ford, founder of The JAGS Foundation set up in memory of her son James Andre Godfrey Smartt-Ford, who was shot dead in 2007.

It begins at 7.30pm at The Battersea Arts Centre, in south London.
