Contest set out to celebrate gospel music returns

THE AWARD-winning University Gospel Choir of the Year (UGCY) annual competition returns this spring.

The choirs have submitted their entries and the judges, after much deliberation, have selected the top university gospel choirs to battle it out and take home the prestigious UGCY 2016 title.

UGCY is a young, voluntary organisation – the creation of Brunel graduate Lorraine H. Wright in 2010, inspired by the iconic blockbuster movie Sister Act 2 – Back In The Habit, starring Whoopi Goldberg.

Since its creation, UGCY has held five annual competitions, celebrating the talent of more than 3,000 students from various universities across the UK.

UGCY aims to bring many talented young individuals together through gospel music, as a celebration of the arts and a means to inspire both young and old.

UGCY is proud to be able to provide such a unique platform for university students to display their talents. They invite you to experience the creativity of theses students with their uplifting songs and performances as many have done since 2011!

Hosted by MOBO Award-winner Rachel Kerr, UGCY 2016 will take place on March 6 2016, at the historic Hippodrome in the heart of northwest London.

As always the competition will be full of dancing, laughter and roaring cheers (and a few tears!) with our seasoned Gospel Music gurus judging the competition ultimately deciding which choir will be crowned the 2016 University Gospel Choir of the Year.
