WINTER OLYMPIC-THEMED comedy film Cool Runnings has been named as the most heart-warming film ever, according to a poll.

In a survey conducted by streaming and DVD rental service LOVEFiLM, 10 per cent of the 3,000 voters chose Cool Runnings, which was released in 1993 and is based on the real-life exploits of a Jamaican bobsled team that competed at the 1988 Calgary Winter Olympic Games.

The Shawshank Redemption was second with nine per cent and Forrest Gump was third with eight per cent of the vote.

Helen Cowley, head of editorial and digital content at LOVEFiLM, told the Press Association: "There's no better way to banish the January blues than by instantly lifting the spirits with a feel-good movie and even Blue Monday is no match for our mood boosting top 10."
