Countdown to I Love JA Day: Our favourite Jamaican recipes

DELICIOUS: We're counting down to I Love Jamaica Day by revisiting some of our favourite Jamaican recipes. Today, Original Flava's Jerk Chicken is on our list!

POPULAR WITH Jamaicans and foodies from all persuasions alike, Caribbean food has become a firm family favourite for many.

Sunday July 30 will give London and its visitors a chance to sample the delights of Jamaican food, including jerk and beyond, at I Love Jamaica Day - scroll down to the end of this article for details for how to get tickets. The event will not only feature some of the best Jamaican cuisine, but will also include a chance to Grammy-nominated reggae artist Luciano on stage, local acts including Sonz of Thunder and Adelaide Mackenzie, Jamaican property experts, advice seminars, childrens' activities and more.



1 chopped Scotch bonnet
Chopped spring onions
1 tbsp pimento seeds
2 tsp fresh thyme
4 tbsp jerk seasoning (paste)
1 tsp chicken seasoning
2 tbsp jerk BBQ sauce
1 tbsp ketchup or sweet chilli


- Wash one pack of chicken with lemon and water and slit chicken with knife

- Chopped one Scotch bonnet or 1/2 for milder option


Cup of chopped spring onion
1 tsp chopped pimento seeds
2 tsp fresh thyme
4 tbsp jerk seasoning (paste)

Mix together:

1 tsp chicken seasoning
1 tsp jerk seasoning then mix together with other seasoning.

- Massage seasoning into chicken and slits

- Marinate chicken in fridge for up to eight hours

- Then cook for 45 mins in oven 180 degrees

Making jerk sauce

1 tbsp of seasoning mix in pot on medium heat
1 tbsp jerk BBQ sauce
Add 1/2 cup of water then mix
Add 1 tbsp of ketchup or sweet chilli to mild down
