Create a family, adopt

HARINGEY COUNCIL is actively trying to find adoptive parents and families for children of all ages and from all ethnic and religious backgrounds. We also have sibling groups and children with physical disabilities and learning difficulties in our care.

All of these children desperately want and need the safety and security of a loving home.

The British Association for Adoption and Fostering - the leading UK charity working for children separated from their birth families - has recently reported that the number of Black and minority ethnic children in the care of local authorities is increasing year on year.

There are far more Black and minority ethnic children in care than there are Black and minority ethnic families coming forward to care for them.

We are positively seeking applications to become adoptive parents from people of any nationality, ethnic, religious, cultural or linguistic backgrounds as well as single, married and same sex partnerships. From our experience, a family which reflects a child’s background is in the best position to help that child grow up with a positive sense of identity. We make every effort to match children with families which broadly reflect a child’s ethnic and cultural background. Only when this is not possible, do we consider families from different backgrounds that are willing and able to promote a child’s heritage.

Adoption is a way of giving a child a new permanent family because they cannot be brought up by their own parents. Adoption creates families and provides children with a loving and stable environment in which to grow and develop.

To find out everything you need to know in order to fully consider becoming adoptive parents please visit or call our advice line on 020 8489 4610. We also host monthly information sessions where you talk to our adoption team face to face, in complete confidence.

We recognise that adoption is a lifelong commitment which is why we offer extensive support to new and existing families, before, during and after adoption.
