Cyrille Regis memorial tribute on January 27

THE LIFE of the late Cyrille Regis will be remembered on Sunday, January 27.

The pioneer footballer died last January and will honoured by friends and the community at Bridgestone Arena (formerly The Pavilion) between 6pm - 9pm tomorrow.

The football world and beyond was shocked and saddened to hear of the passing of former West Bromwich Albion forward Regis at the age of 59.

He was a icon of English football, becoming one of the first black players of the professional game, alongside former Albion team-mates Laurie Cunningham and Brendon Batson.

Albion staged a service to celebrate his life immediately after his funeral.

This was followed by the opportunity for Cyrille’s wider circle of admirers, from football and beyond, to join the family at the stadium he always considered home for a celebration of his life and career.

This was staged in the East Stand, looking out to the pitch which graced his thrilling talents, and was conducted by Pastor David Carr from the church Cyrille attended, the Renewal Chris- tian Centre in Solihull.

Following his career, Cyrille was a great supporter of football anti-racism campaign, Kick It Out, kindly donating his time and efforts to Kick It Out on numerous occasions.

Bridgestone Arena is in Brent, London NW10 8LW. Proceedings get under way at 6pm
