'Dangerous' south London drug dealer jailed for 10 years

JAILED: Omar Raymond Welsh

A MAN who police describe as "dangerous" is to spend the next 10 years in prison after being convicted and sentenced for dealing drugs in London.

Omar Raymond Welsh, 37, of Buckmaster Close, south London, was handed his 10-year jail term at Croydon Crown Court yesterday following his guilty plea to the charge of possession and intent to supply heroin.

His charge and arrest came after officers in Croydon attempted to stop Welsh at Thornton Heath train station on August 22 – he was seen carrying a designer Louis Vuitton bag, but as police approached he attempted to escape and throw away the bag.

EVIDENCE: 2kg of heroin recovered from Welsh

Police managed to apprehend him in nearby Brook Road and also recovered the designer bag which contained suspected class A drugs.

After lab analysis, the substance was found to be heroin weighing about 2kg.

Welsh was already out on license following his 2012 release from prison for a similar drug offence.

“Welsh is a dangerous and serial offender who has been convicted and sentenced due to the excellent work of the officers from our Central Task Force and Croydon’s Crime Squad”, detective chief inspector Steve Wagstaff said.
