'Diligent’ Deng makes successful comeback

POLE POSITION: Deng

BASKETBALLER LUOL Deng made his return after seven games out with a wrist injury and the Team GB revealed that he ‘felt great’.

Deng ruptured a ligament in his left wrist during Chicago Bulls’ clash with Charlotte Bobcats on January 21.

There was talk of the small forward needing surgery but he decided to see how things went on a week-by-week basis and made his return on Saturday (February 4) against Milwaukee Bucks.

The Bulls won by 113-90 to keep them in pole position in the Eastern Conference and Deng managed 41 minutes on the court, tallying 21 points and nine boards.

After the game, Deng was upbeat about his injury, something which will come as great news to all those hoping to see him in action for Team GB at London 2012.

“It feels great – right now it’s fine, “ said the 26-year-old.

“I’m going to continue everything the same. I’m just going to forget about it. I’m playing. I don’t need to keep talking about it. As long as I’m playing, it’s fine. I was told four to six weeks but I knew when I had the injury the way it felt, I could recover quickly.”

Deng also participated in the Bulls’ entire 75 minute practise and coach Tom Thibodeau was full of praise for the 26-year-old’s work ethic:

“Luol has a lot of mental and physical toughness. He stayed in great shape. He prepared himself well. He was diligent with his rehab. He did all the things you would expect a good pro to do.

“There’s not much he can’t do, and he does everything well. And he’s got experience. He makes the team better in every aspect.”
