Eagle to take flight again

GOALS: Peter Odemwingie

NIGERIA STRIKER Peter Odemwingie is set to be welcomed back into the Nigeria fold. Odemwingie, who turns 30 this month, was suspended after making comments about his national manager Samson Siasia on Twitter.

But now there are suggestions from the Nigeria Football Federation that the player will be brought back for the game against Ghana, which takes place at Watford FC’s Vicarage Road ground on August 9.

Nigeria’s top football official has ordered peace talks to end the West Bromwich Albion striker’s stand-off with his international boss.

Nigeria Football Federation president Alhaji Aminu Maigari says he will not interfere directly in the dispute between Odemwingie and national team coach Samson Siasia.

However, Maigari has instructed members of the federation’s technical committee to liaise with Siasia to find a way of getting Odemwingie back into the international fold.

The striker was axed from the squad in a dispute over his withdrawal from a March friendly, and Siasia stated that the player would not be recalled unless he apologised.

But Maigari said: “I know that Nigerians will not want a situation where players will become bigger than their coach because the relationship between coaches and players is like father and son relationship. So, I have mandated the technical committee to find a way of resolving the face-off.”

Premier League Albion have opened talks with Odemwingie over a contract extension. He has been at the centre of transfer speculation, with Arsenal rumoured to be interested in securing his signature.
