East London screwdriver robber jailed

JAILED: Trai Glasgow used a screwdriver to threaten his victims

A MAN who armed himself with a screwdriver to rob his victims has been imprisoned for five and a half years.

Trai Glasgow, 19, of Romford, Essex, was sentenced yesterday at Snaresbrook Crown Court after pleading guilty to 14 counts of robbery.

Between November 2012 and January 2013 he targeted people using smartphones in the areas around Snakes Lane East, Broadmead Road and Chigwell Road in east London.

Glasgow used the screwdriver to threaten several victims.

Police deployed plain clothed officers after noticing a pattern in where the robberies were carried out, and on January 9 of this year he was arrested.

“Trai Glasgow is a cowardly man who used a weapon to intimidate people and steal from them”, said detective constable Joanna Stevens, of Ilford Robbery Squad.

“There may be other people out there who have fallen victim to Glasgow - if you have, I would urge you to come forward and speak to me or my team.”

Detective inspector Craig Robinson added: “Glasgow was caught as a result of hard work and good intelligence. He is a dangerous man who has shown that he would not hesitate to use violence when intimidation failed.

“He targeted many of his victims as they were either using their phone or wearing distinctive earphones. I would urge people to take care when using their personal possessions in public areas and be aware of their surroundings.”
