EYE-YI-YI: Mystery giant eyeball being held

A GIANT blue eyeball found washed up on a Florida beach has baffled wildlife experts who are currently searching for the species of animal it came from.

The eye, which was discovered by Gino Covacci on Pompano Beach, is said to be the same size as an average softball and is currently being analysed at the Florida Fish and Wildlife Research Institute in St Petersburg.

Agency spokeswoman, Carli Segelson, who claims the eye likely came from a marine animal, told The Sun Sentinel: “It was very, very fresh. It was still bleeding when I put it in the plastic bag.”

'”This is definitely an unusual situation, where an eye would be found independent of any other body part,” she added.

The agency has shared the photo of the eye on its Facebook page, where followers are suggesting it belongs to everything from a giant squid to mythical create, Bigfoot.

The investigation continues.
