Family fun at Jerk Cookout and Cultural Foods event

GOOD FOOD, GOOD TIMES: The Jerk Cookout Event

THE VOICE & Gleaner are proud to be supporters of the Jerk Cookout Event at Wandle Park on Sunday 29 July 2018 from 12 noon to 7 pm.

This is the first time this free entry event has been held in Croydon and promises to bring another level of entertainment for the whole family to enjoy, and an opportunity to meet up with friends and relatives as well see who will win Jerk Cookout Chef of the year.

The Jerk Cookout event has previously been held in Lewisham and Lambeth.

A Jerk Cookout food competition will also take place and be judged by RH Diana Abbott MP, Dawn Butler MP plus celebrity Chefs.

The stage is hosted by the comedian Donna Spence with a live PA from Japan saxophones Miss Megumi, keep-fit candy dance off in the park plus Ska, Reggae and Salsa in the park.

The day promises to be a fun family day out in one of our well-kept Croydon parks.

There will be a variety of stalls featuring the famous jerk seasoning from some of the top Jerk chefs in London, competitions, arts and crafts and a variety of activities for children to participate in.

What is Big Local Broad Green?

Big Local Broad Green is a lottery funded national initiative that aims to support local communities to identify local need and take action in response to them. The London Road area of Broad Green was selected as a Big Local site and work is now approaching its third year. The themed priorities for the area are Greener and Cleaner, Stronger Community, Supporting Vulnerable People, Places to go and things to do, Stronger Economy, Health and Wellness, Leaving a Legacy.

How can I get involved?

Big Local Broad Green are actively seeking new members to join the steering group which is a group of residents and local stakeholders who collectively take decisions on the development of the project and also funding proposals received to undertake a local project for the benefit of the residents of Broad Green.

For the Steering Group the commitment is a meeting of two hours duration once a month.

They are also seeking local residents to become volunteers to support the work at our new Community Hub. Get in touch and become part of this great project.
