Fans shut down Beyonce cultural appropriation claims

THE CULTURAL appropriation police are on the move again - and this time, the target of such claims is none other than Beyonce.

The singer performed at a wedding celebration in India over the weekend, celebrating the nuptials of Isha Ambani – the 27-year old daughter of Reliance Industries head Mukesh Ambani – and Anand Piramal, the 33-year old son of another Indian billionaire.

The early festivities, which is custom for Indian marriages, welcomed a handful of celebrity guests including Hillary Clinton, newlyweds Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas plus many more.

Whilst in India, Queen B posted some images of herself dressed in traditional clothing, including a pink and gold dress with a headpiece and bracelets.

Some critics assumed Bey was culturally appropriating Indian or Hindu culture, but suggested it would go unnoticed due to her social status.

However, her fans were quick to come to the star’s defense, stating that she was actually paying homage to the culture. They also added that she was invited to perform at the party by a prominent Indian family and therefore, was dressed appropriately out of respect for their culture and the occasion.
