Former footballer's event to tackle mental health awareness

FORMER PREMIER league footballer and professional boxer Leon McKenzie is bringing together social media stars and mental health advocates for a special event to mark Mental Health Awareness week.

The event, which promises to be an evening of discussion, poetry, music and laughter to celebrate positive approaches to tackling mental health, will take place on Tuesday May 15th during Mental Health Awareness week.

On the night, guests will be invited to explore the theme of mental health through personal stories, music, poetry and comedy.

Comedian Mo Gilligan, also known as Mo the Comedian, will be performing on the night, as will singer-songwriter Clinton Jordan.

Simon Gunning, CEO of CALM, the campaign against living miserably, Britain’s leading suicide prevention charity, campaign and author Natasha Devon, east London poet Hussain Manawer, film director Nathanael Wiseman and journalist and presenter Rachel Downie will also be speaking on the night.

McKenzie, who has personal experience of depression and spoke publicly about his battle with the condition for the first time in 2011, is now a leading mental health advocate.

Mind Reposition: Taking Control of Mental Wellbeing takes place 7-9pm on Tuesday May 15 at Mortimer House, 37-41 Mortimer Street, London W1T 3JH.

Mind Reposition is an organisation established by McKenzie to help broaden the understanding of mental health issues throughout the UK.

It works with individuals, groups and organisations to help them recognise the signs of mental health conditions and to develop responses tailored to individual situations.
