Former journalist reveals the secret to media interviews

ADVICE: Evadney Campbell at the launch of her book this week

FORMER BBC journalist and breast cancer survivor Evadney Campbell has published her first book to help entrepreneurs prepare for their moment in the media spotlight.

Campbell, who co-founded PR company Shiloh PR in 2013, previously spent 30 years working as a presenter, producer and journalist in broadcast media. Having witnessed the TV and radio interview process from the inside, she recognised that many were ill prepared for their moment on air.

Her book, How To Carry Out Media Interviews: An Expert Guide to Mastering TV, Radio and Online Interviews includes chapters with tips on what to expect, vocal inflection, dressing the part and getting your key message across and much more.

In 2017, Campbell was diagnosed with breast cancer and was motivated to pen the book – she had been wanting to write for some time.

“Writing the book took my mind off the treatment,” said Campbell. “I was very fortunate that my breast cancer was diagnosed early, but I still had to go through chemotherapy and radiotherapy. I couldn't physically do a lot of work, so I filled my time by writing.

“I wanted to demystify the process of being interviewed in the media. Many of my PR clients were hoping to gain media coverage for their brand, but when that spot was secured, they needed coaching on what to expect, and of course, how to get their message across.”

How To Carry Out Media Interviews provides a comprehensive step-by-step guide for those seeking to not only make a great and lasting impression, but to have their presence remembered for future opportunities and reference.

The official book launch was held at the Jamaican high commission in London on Thursday (June 28). The book is now available to purchase from Amazon and Lulu.
