George the Poet named youngest Arts Council member

TRAILBLAZER: George's time to shine.

GEORGE THE Poet will go down in history as the youngest member of Arts Council England's National Council.

The National Council is the non-executive board of the Arts Council, a body which works to promote art and culture across the United Kingdom. It is in charge of governmental spending on the Arts and, as such, is deeply involved in the country's creative progression.

The appointment of the 26-year-old follows a recommendation by London arts venue Roundhouse, backed by ACE, for arts organisations to elect young trustees to tackle “assumed corporate righteousness” and "improve the quality of decision making".

The BBC and BRIT Awards-endorsed wordsmith joins six other new additions to the board.
