He’s got heart: Menelik Watson donates pay to sick girl

A FOUR-YEAR-OLD girl with a heart problem received some much-needed Christmas cheer after British NFL player Menelik Watson donated his game check to her family.

The Oakland Raiders offensive linesman gave his pay packet to Ava Urrea’s father after his team beat the Buffalo Bills 26-24.

Worth a reported £12,000 after tax, the game cheque was not the only gift for Ava, who lives with hypoplastic left heart syndrome.

She was also given signed memorabilia from players, including a helmet and footballs, while she also led out the Raiders as captain for the day.

The heartwarming moment was organised by the Touchdown Dreams programme, set up by Fox Sports’ Jay Glazer.

Ava has reportedly had 14 surgical operations to date after she was born with half a heart.

Writing on Twitter, Glazer said: “Thank you so much @raiders, coaches players @MenelikWatson for the incredible week you’ve given my little friend Ava. GOD bless [you] all”.
