Heavyweight Haye returns on June 29 at the Manchester Arena

FORMER WBA heavyweight world champion David Haye today (March 28) announced that he will be making his first outing of 2013 at the Manchester Arena on June 29.

Although no opponent has been named, the 32-year-old ex-undisputed cruiserweight champion’s trainer and manager, Adam Booth, said that he will be fighting a pugilist ranked within the top 15 of the four major boxing governing bodies.

Nicknamed ‘The Hayemaker’, Haye – who will also be competing inside the squared circle at a later date in 2013, possibly in November – plans to be named as the mandatory challenger for a bout against the long-standing world champions Vitali Klitschko or his brother Wladimir.

Haye’s comeback in Manchester, which will be promoted by Hayemaker Promotions, will be his first contest since his fifth round knockout of Dereck Chisora, which took place at Upton Park in July 2012.

Speaking at a press conference in central London about his comeback, Haye confidently declared to the Voice of Sport: “I’m looking forward to getting back into the ring, doing what I do best and knocking people out and that’s what I’ll be doing on June 29. No opponent yet but whoever it is, it doesn’t really matter because they’re going to get dispatched one way or another."

Haye confirmed that his goal is to secure a heavyweight title fight against either Wladimir - who he lost to via a unanimous points verdict on July 2011 - or older sibling Vitali.

"Vitali’s said publicly many times that he can knock me out and beat me; put it on the line, let’s do it. It’s one thing saying it, it’s another thing doing it," said Haye.

"I’ve been ready to fight him for a while but he’s not got back to me so we’ll see."

And when asked why he is returning to boxing, having previously retired on October 2011 and appeared on reality television programme I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here! last November, his response was simple.

"To win the heavyweight world title back."
