Host of stars will pay tribute to Aretha Franklin at funeral

QUEEN OF SOUL: Fans have been paying respect to the star at a public viewing this week

ARETHA FRANKLIN will be laid to rest on Friday at Woodlawn Cemetery following a funeral at the Greater Grace Temple in Detroit.

The Queen of Soul’s funeral will be a star studded affair that celebrates the life of the soul singer who touched millions with her music.

Some of the performers confirmed to pay tribute to Franklin at her funeral include Stevie Wonder, Jennifer Hudson and country singer Faith Hill.

Ariana Grande has also been confirmed by Franklin’s publicist as one of the performers for the late singer’s funeral.

Franklin, who died from pancreatic cancer on August 16, was “fond” of Grande, a spokeswoman for the I Say a Little Prayer singer’s family said.

Grande performed an emotional tribute to Franklin on The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon following her death. She sang (You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman with The Roots.

Other famous faces set to attend the celebration of Franklin’s life include Smokey Robinson, Jesse Jackson, Yolanda Adams and Chaka Khan, Clive Davis, former US attorney general Eric Holder and former US president Bill Clinton.

This week fans have had the opportunity to pay their respects to Franklin in her hometown where she has been lying in state at the Charles H Wright Museum of African-American History.

Franklin was dressed in a regal red outfit on Tuesday, which was changed to a powder blue dress with matching shoes on Wednesday.

The star’s funeral will be a private event. Her body will be laid to rest alongside her late relatives including her brother, Cecil Franklin and her sisters, Carolyn and Erma Franklin.

A sold-out concert will be held on Thursday (August 30) at Detroit’s Chene Park amphitheatre.
