Human rights group launches new book

PUBLISHED: Until the Sky Turns Silver

ATD (ALL Together in Dignity) Fourth World is an anti-poverty human rights movement of solidarity among and in collaboration with the most excluded families around the world.

Founded in 1957, ATD Fourth World brings together women and men from all cultures and social classes and is active in 34 countries. It is an international non-governmental organisation with no religious or political affiliation and it has consultative status at the United Nations.

That link with the United Nations is behind the idea of Until the Sky Turns Silver, which is a fictionalised telling of the story behind the UN World Day for Overcoming Poverty.

The story explores the lives of an African-American teenage girl and a young man from Tanzania who are asked to give a speech about poverty at the United Nations, but they find that it can be challenging to communicate with the diplomats they meet there.

Until the Sky Turns Silver has just been awarded a finalist prize in the Next Generation Indie Book Awards in the category of Current Events/Social Justice.

The book was published by Sondiata Global Media (Songlome) a UK based company that empowers the African diaspora to tell their story. Their clients and organisations write about Africa and wider countries. Songlome are committed to telling the African story in the African way, thereby enabling Africans to own their narrative.

Josephine Coker who is the resident Marketing Consultant at Songlome and owner of
CokerJay Consultancy, a marketing and business development consultancy in London, is putting together the book launch on behalf of ATD Fourth World.

The keynote speaker for the evening is Dr Koldo Casla, Policy Director of Just Fair-UK, a charity which exists to realise a fairer and more just society in the UK by monitoring and advocating the protection of economic and social rights.

He was previously with Amnesty International and the United Nations Office of The High Commissioner for Human Rights.

It is expected that the evening will be informative, fun, entertaining, and a good place to network for career-minded people and entrepreneurs alike. Complimentary refreshments will be served with proceeds from the event going to projects run by ATD Fourth World in Tanzania, East Africa. All attendees will receive a copy of the book and an additional surprise gift.
