HEARING LOSS: Action on Hearing Loss are recruiting volunteers

DO YOU want to learn new skills, make new friends and help older people? Action on Hearing Loss are looking for enthusiastic individuals to join its team of information volunteers and help spread the word about hearing loss to older people in their local area.

Across the UK, 11 million people are affected by hearing loss. That’s one in every six people. This means someone in your family, a friend, your partner, or someone you work with is living with hearing loss every day. Action on Hearing Loss (formerly RNID) is the largest UK charity helping people with deafness, hearing loss and tinnitus (ringing in your ears).

We received funding from the National Lottery through the Big Lottery fund, to deliver the Hear to Inform and Connect project. This exciting project is enabling us to grow our face-to-face information services for older and isolated people with hearing loss across Scotland, Northern Ireland, London and South East England.

To ensure our information services reach as many older people as possible, we rely on the invaluable support provided by local volunteers who represent the diverse people and communities that we support. Our volunteer team is growing. We’re looking for friendly and motivated people to:

- Run information stands
- Deliver information talks
- Provide hearing checks
- Demonstrate products that can help people manage their hearing loss

Whichever vital volunteer role you choose, you’ll reach out to older people with hearing loss, their families and community groups in your local area. All our volunteering opportunities are flexible, and designed to work around your availability. Full training and support will be provided.

“I enjoy meeting people and helping with their queries. Hearing loss can cause frustration and isolation, leading to loss of confidence. If I’m able to improve someone’s quality of life by sharing information or raising awareness of how others can help… that’s very satisfying,” - a Action on Hearing Loss volunteer said.
