iPhone is a cash king

SUCCESS: Apple's iPhone is still the company's flagship product

iPHONE'S latest revenues have exceeded rival Microsoft's combined income, recent figures have shown.

Apple's figures show that the company's iPhone division generated $24.4 billion in the quarter up till last December, surpassing rival Microsoft's revenue with $4 billion.

Despite Microsoft's revenue showing a record five percent increase from previous years, the iPhone division's revenue still exceeded Microsoft's most popular products, including XBox, Microsoft Office and Window phone.

"The iPhone did not exist five years ago, now it's bigger than a company that, 15 years ago, was dragged into court and threatened with forcible break-up because it had amassed an unassailable and unthinkable profitable monopoly," Business Insider, which has highlighted the figures, said.

Apple, which only overtook Microsoft's market capitalisation in May 2011, says it has sold 37.04 million of its flagship product, bringing its total fortune at a staggering $100bn.

The first Apple's iPhone was released on June 29, 2007 and the fifth generation, iPhone 4S on October 14 2011.
